Character Rendering Study

Over at Isaac Hannaford's blog there's some Halo Reach Army trooper concepts I'm using as reference. My goal is to match his style of rendering cause it gets an awesome result in what appears to be a small amount of time (quick sketch with color comp underneath, simple interesting poses, and realistic low saturated color scheme.)

I spent my lunch hour on the first attempt:

After finishing, I realized I hadn't included any latches or insignia, which Isaac hints at and in some cases compeltely renders. I didn't finish rendering the face, which bugged a couple of my colleagues, and I could use some more variation with line weight. Got some stuff to think about for my next one. The pose is a paint-over from posemaniacs so I could just focus my brain on rendering instead of proportions.
